4. Redeemed Captive Returns To Zion By Rev.John Williams; and Harrison Williams, Life Robert Williams Rev. John is one of our most historical ancestors. I have a repo of his book The Redeemed Captive Returns to Zion. This book also has an addendum by Rev Stephen, his son,our ancestor also, that describes their time of captivity by the French and Indians. You will notice some year date discrepancies, the Julian and Georgian calandars were melding at 1700 so some dates are of one and others of the other. The massacre was 29 Feb. 1704.I strongly recommend reading his account and also Stephen's. There is also an interesting story concerning dau. Eunice, who stayed with the Indians and m."~The Lost Dauphin"~ of France was supposed to be in the care of her grandson Thomas. Harrison Williams gives abbrivated versions of these stories in his sectios on this part of the family and also gives references to more lengthy presentations.Rev.John,his cousin William and Samuel Danforth,Jr. were the Class of 1683 at Harvard. Rev Stephen is our following ancestor. His card in nu.46.
5. Life Robt.Williams,Harrison Williams LL.D.; and His Memor. Appendage to Rev.John's book There is much written by and about Rev Stephen Williams. We visited Long Meadow in the early '80's and found he is still much revered at the Historical Society. We met school children in the Cemetary in the Congregational Churchyard and they were most proud to lead us to his grave and read the inscription on his stone. Worth stopping there to see that and his manuscripts kept at the Storrs House- the Historical Society of which I am presently a member. Stephen was captured with his parents and other children. He wrote a most creditable for a boy of 13 , account of his captivity.Worth reading. He graduated from Harvard,as did his father, in 1713. He was ordained for the Chuch at Long Meadow 3 July 1718. He served in three campaigns. See p67 Harrison Williams book.He received an Honary Doctor of Divinity from Yale in 1741 and from Dartmouth in 1773.He was 90 and in his 66th year of ministry when he d.Nathan is our next ancestor, his card nu.73 will continue the lineage.
